Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 4, 2026. This policy covers the Scenica website, browser extension, and related learning services.
1. Overview
Scenica is an English-learning product that helps learners turn real-world videos and text into study materials. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you use the Scenica website, browser extension, and related services.
By using Scenica, you agree to the practices described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
2. Information We Collect
Account information: your email address, authentication status, membership or redemption status, and basic account settings.
Learning content: video links, source identifiers, subtitles, transcripts, imported text, generated lesson notes, vocabulary, expressions, quiz activity, review history, bookmarks, and learning progress.
Extension activity: when you choose to import a supported video, the browser extension may read the current page URL, page title, video identifier, available caption metadata, and transcript content needed to create a Scenica lesson.
Media and profile assets: if you upload a profile avatar or similar public profile asset, we may store and serve that file through our media storage provider.
Technical data: device, browser, session, error, request, and security logs that help us operate, debug, and protect the service.
Analytics data: page views, basic traffic source, device/browser category, and product interaction events may be collected in aggregated or pseudonymous form to understand whether the MVP is usable.
3. How We Use Information
We use information to provide the learning experience, create AI-assisted study materials, save your Word Garden and review state, authenticate your account, send account-related emails, prevent abuse, improve reliability, maintain security, and understand product usage.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your imported learning content to create public recommendations unless the product clearly provides such a publishing or public-sharing workflow.
4. AI Processing
Scenica uses AI services to analyze subtitles, imported text, vocabulary, expressions, summaries, quiz prompts, and related learning materials. Content you submit or import may be sent to AI providers only for the purpose of generating the requested learning output and improving the product workflow.
AI-generated content may contain mistakes. You should review important translations, explanations, and learning suggestions before relying on them.
5. Third-Party Service Providers
Scenica may use third-party service providers for hosting, database, authentication, email delivery, object storage, AI processing, browser extension distribution, and security. These providers may process information only as needed to operate Scenica.
Current service categories may include Cloudflare for hosting and delivery, Supabase for authentication and database services, Resend for transactional email, Cloudflare R2 for media storage, Google Gemini or related AI services for content analysis, and Google Analytics or a similar analytics provider for product analytics.
6. Browser Extension Permissions
The Scenica browser extension is designed to work only on supported learning-source pages and Scenica pages. It requests the permissions needed to detect supported videos, read available caption or transcript data, open the learning sidebar, and communicate with Scenica services.
The extension does not intentionally collect unrelated browsing history. It should not read page content unless it is needed for a user-initiated import or supported learning workflow.
7. Cookies and Local Storage
Scenica may use cookies, local storage, service workers, or similar browser technologies to keep you signed in, remember interface state, cache learning data, support offline-like behavior, and improve performance.
You can clear browser storage through your browser settings, but doing so may sign you out or remove local-only history.
8. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We may disclose information if required by law, to protect Scenica and its users, to prevent abuse or security threats, or as part of a business transfer such as a merger, acquisition, or asset sale.
We may also share information with service providers that help us operate the product, subject to their own security and privacy commitments.
9. Data Retention
We keep account, learning, and operational data for as long as needed to provide Scenica, maintain your learning history, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, and improve service reliability.
You may request deletion of your account or certain personal data by contacting us. Some data may remain in backups, logs, or records where retention is required for security, legal, or operational reasons.
10. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. However, no internet service can guarantee absolute security.
You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for contacting us if you believe your account has been compromised.
11. Children
Scenica is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
12. International Use
Scenica may process and store information in countries or regions where our service providers operate. By using Scenica, you understand that your information may be transferred and processed outside your country of residence.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the product evolves. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
